Mrs. Sperry's Homework/Grading Policy
- All assignments are worth 100 points. However, Quizzes, Final Draft Papers, AR (Accelerated Reading) Points, and Vocabulary Tests are weighted heavier within the students' overall grade.
- When homework is assigned, it is usually due the next day (unless I say otherwise).
- Late Policy = Students have one week from the due date of the assignment to turn it in at all. Past this date, they will not receive credit for that assignment.
- Absent Policy = It is the student's responsibility to see what they missed/check in with me when they return. I have a white homework tray located in my room that the students can visit when they return to class after being absent to receive the materials from that day in class.
- Homework/Quizzes/Tests Mostly Consist of:
Fix-It! Daily Grammar, Sacred Writing Time, EIW (Excellence in Writing) Process/Papers, Scope Magazine Activities, Vocabulary, RACE Strategy Open-Ended Questions
*Grammar - learn vocabulary words and definitions, correct sentences, label parts of speech
*Sacred Writing Time - used sparingly; SWT is a Creative Writing Activity that builds writing fluency skills (number of words/sentences). Producing a page of interesting thoughts in 10 minutes is a goal. It also challenges students to be more creative. Students are able to use writing skills and use/learn new vocabulary. Students learn to present ideas in unique formats.
*I do allow reassessment for most quizzes/tests. The students are expected to make the choice to reassess themselves; I cannot make that student re-take their quiz. They are responsible to let me know when they are going to reassess. Students can set up an appropriate time to reassess.
